Ready to e-file Form 2290?? Here is how!
Gather all required information
before you begin.
-
Employer Identification Number (EIN):
- Many tax filers try to use Social Security Number instead of EIN while filing the form 2290 online. IRS does not accept Social Security Number on Form 2290. If you do not have EIN, apply one. Once you apply for a new EIN, it takes about 10 to 15 days to activate and establish in IRS systems.
- For new EINs; as soon as you submit the form 2290 with new EIN, IRS will reject it due to a new EIN. We have an automatic system on www.form2290.com to keep re-submitting the rejected Form 2290 due to new EIN.
- The EIN and Business name (the name assigned while applying for EIN) must be entered as same as IRS record.
-
Taxable Gross Weight: People often get confuse about selecting
gross weight. Taxable
gross weight is
55,000 pounds or more that
includes truck, trailer and maximum load. In
most cases, tax filers select gross weight as empty vehicles weight.
Which later on results them to do gross weight amendment.
-
VIN (Vehicle Identification Number): The vehicle’s VIN can
be obtained from the registration, title or actual vehicle. Generally
the VIN is with 17 characters, made up of numbers and letters. They
require VIN of the truck, not trailer’s. IRS is not accepting
letter O, I and Q on VINs, if you have any of these letters on the
VIN then replace it with X. If the VIN is less than 17 characters
then add Xs at the end of the VIN to make it 17 characters long.
-
Tax payment for IRS: There are four options tax payers have to
pay IRS tax while e-filing form 2290. These are as below;
- Bank Account (E-check or Electronic Fund Withdrawal)
- Credit/Debit Card
- EFTPS ((Electronic Federal Tax Payment System)
- Check or Money Order
The
most easiest and convenient option to pay IRS tax is through bank
account. After Submitting the form 2290 online under this option, IRS
charges the account automatically. Where as under other mode of
payment tax payer has to go through separate process to complete the
tax clearance.
